About

Klank.ist is a nonprofit interdisciplinary collective founded by Eda Er—composer, multimedia artist, and vocalist—and visual artist Mertcan Åžeker. Today, under the artistic direction of Eda Er and Aslı Kobaner, the collective continues to expand its vision through formations such as klank.ist wip, klank.ist ensemble, and klank.ist soca. The collective aim to collaborate across disciplines, organize events, release albums, and push the boundaries of contemporary music.

The collective collaborates with a vibrant network of artists, placing particular emphasis on intercultural music initiatives. Ongoing contributors include cultural events facilitator Eren Arın, advisory/curator Ken Ueno, and klank.ist soca curators Max Abner and Merve Salgar. Klank.ist soca presents cross-continental collaborations and performances, connecting artists across different locations through shared scores and live events. Klank.ist Impro, curated and coordinated by Ekin Tunçeli, focuses primarily on dance improvisation events.

At its core, Klank.ist challenges the boundaries between disciplines and mediums. Its members—artists working across and beyond traditional formats—explore the interplay of sound, image, and movement, engaging all the senses in immersive, multisensory experiences.

Klank.ist fosters collaborations across diverse art forms, including dance, theatre, music, architecture, production design, and stage design. The collective prioritizes international partnerships and projects that ignite cross-cultural dialogue and creative exchange.

Collaborations

Klank.ist thrives on collaboration. Our projects emerge through encounters with a diverse group of artists, performers, and thinkers whose practices span sound, movement, visual art, theater, and design. Over time, the collective has grown into a dynamic network of co-creators across cities such as Berlin, Graz, Strasbourg, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Istanbul.

We’ve worked closely with composers and musicians like Orkun Akyol, Max Gibson, David Mastikosa, Giovanni Zaniol, and Mustafa ÇaÄŸatay Erol; visual and performance artists including Özgü Bulut, Sabina Khujaeva, Seçil Işıksoy, and Mert Ünal; and dancers, choreographers, and directors such as Ekin Tunçeli, Ayça Arın, Eyüp Emre Uçaray, and Atilla Kadri Åžendil.

Our collaborations also extend into the realms of sound design and production with creatives like Jeremy Woodruff, Emin Ersöz YiÄŸit, Umut Eldem, and Okan YaÅŸarlar; as well as interdisciplinary performers like Christine Cornwell, Özgür Yılmaz, Barış Aygün, Kıvılcım Konca, and MBIAD. We’ve engaged in intercultural dialogue through the work of cultural facilitator Eren Arın and explored new media with artists like HueyChing Chong, Enis GümüÅŸ, and Safa KocaoÄŸlu.

Each collaboration contributes to Klank.ist’s evolving language — one that embraces transdisciplinary storytelling, experimental form, and the continuous reshaping of performance in response to space, context, and community.
