About

Klank.ist is a nonprofit interdisciplinary collective founded by Eda Er and Mertcan Şeker. Currently under the artistic direction of Eda Er and Aslı Kobaner, with curatorial work by Max Abner, Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu, and Merve Salgar, the collective continues to expand its vision through platforms such as klank.ist impro, klank.ist ensemble, and klank.ist soca.

Dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary music and interdisciplinary practice, Klank.ist initiates projects that span performance, production, and publication. The collective organizes events, releases albums, and cultivates experimental formats that challenge conventional artistic frameworks.

At its core, Klank.ist is driven by intercultural exchange and international collaboration. It works with a wide network of artists and cultural practitioners to foster cross-cultural dialogue and mobility. Klank.ist soca focuses on cross-continental collaborations, connecting artists through shared scores and distributed performances across geographic locations. Klank.ist impro centers on improvisation practices, with a particular emphasis on dance and embodied performance.

Operating at the intersection of disciplines, Klank.ist challenges the boundaries between sound, image, and movement. Its members—artists working across music, visual arts, performance, and design—create immersive, multisensory experiences that engage diverse perceptual and conceptual frameworks.

Through collaborations spanning dance, theatre, music, architecture, and stage design, Klank.ist continues to cultivate an expansive, globally connected artistic network, foregrounding experimentation, hybridity, and critical dialogue in contemporary art practice.

Collaborations

Klank.ist thrives on collaboration. Our projects emerge through encounters with a diverse group of artists, performers, and thinkers whose practices span sound, movement, visual art, theater, and design. Over time, the collective has grown into a dynamic network of co-creators across cities such as Berlin, Graz, Strasbourg, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Istanbul.

We’ve worked closely with composers and musicians like Orkun Akyol, Max Gibson, David Mastikosa, Giovanni Zaniol, and Mustafa Çağatay Erol; visual and performance artists including Özgü Bulut, Sabina Khujaeva, Seçil Işıksoy, and Mert Ünal; and dancers, choreographers, and directors such as Ekin Tunçeli, Ayça Arın, Eyüp Emre Uçaray, and Atilla Kadri Şendil.

Our collaborations also extend into the realms of sound design and production with creatives like Jeremy Woodruff, Emin Ersöz Yiğit, Umut Eldem, and Okan Yaşarlar; as well as interdisciplinary performers like Christine Cornwell, Özgür Yılmaz, Barış Aygün, Kıvılcım Konca, and MBIAD. We’ve engaged in intercultural dialogue through the work of cultural facilitator Eren Arın and explored new media with artists like HueyChing Chong, Enis Gümüş, and Safa Kocaoğlu.

Each collaboration contributes to Klank.ist’s evolving language — one that embraces transdisciplinary storytelling, experimental form, and the continuous reshaping of performance in response to space, context, and community.
